Join us for an interactive 60-minute workshop with Diversity & Inclusion Consultant and Professor Dean Delpeache for a Black History Month conversation focused on the black experience in Canadian history. Dean will address historical concepts, and systemic inequities faced by black communities and employees.
The primary goal of the session will be to celebrate the contributions of black Canadians and your team members strengthening organizational inclusivity. We finalize the session with how we can all be a part of creating a more equitable workplace that supports allyship.
Topics to be covered:
• Historical concepts of the black experience in Canadian history
• A review of the terminology and definitions surrounding the topic
• How to celebrate and recognize black Canadians and value our Black employees
• Supportive Allyship that supports our black, Indigenous and racialized colleagues
Participants will leave this session with an assured sense of correct terminology, and better understanding of fundamental issues, such as systemic racism and intergenerational trauma and supportive allyship. The goal is to create a brave space that helps to bring awareness and support behaviour change.
Please note: Parts of this session will focus on historic and present day truths which may be uncomfortable. Participants will learn to confront and address this discomfort within the context of a respectable learning environment and discuss why it’s important to sit with uncomfortable feelings.
