A destination neighbourhood rich in public art
ArtWalk 2.0 is an augmentation of the original online map and self-guided walking tour that launched in 2021, and now incorporates an audio component for the 70+ artworks plus five augmented reality experiences – including the CN Tower and five iconic downtown Toronto artworks and buildings by diverse artists from Canada and abroad. The audio tour not only tells you about the art you’ll encounter, but also information about the artists and the historical and cultural context of the work.
Stops To Experience
Triad by Ted Bieler
Created for Toronto’s 150th anniversary, Triad features three twisting tetrahedrons that echo the form of a DNA helix. The added third strand can be seen as a symbol of Toronto itself—interwoven, diverse, and connected. The sculpture reflects the idea that a city’s DNA is shaped by the people who call it home.
Glenn by Ruth Abernathy
Glenn Gould was known for his virtuosity and eccentricity, but this sculpture captures a quieter, more contemplative side. Commissioned by The Glenn Gould Foundation, Ruth Abernathy’s work brings to life Don Hunstein’s well-known photograph, offering a thoughtful tribute to one of Canada’s most celebrated musicians.
The Poet, The Fever Hospital by Bernie Miller
This geometric sculpture reflects Toronto’s layered past. The Poet honours Isabella Valancy Crawford, one of Canada’s most significant literary figures, while The Fever Hospital references the former York Hospital once located at King and John. The abstract form offers a modern lens on history, carrying a sense of continuity and optimism for the future.
Dream House by Vong Phaophanit and Claire Oboussier
Toronto is shaped by cultures from around the world. Dream House serves as a welcoming reminder that everyone belongs here, regardless of background or identity. Its bright, playful form reflects the city’s diversity and the sense of home it offers to all.
3D Butterfly Mural by Jo the ChalkChick
To support local butterfly populations, the CN Tower introduced a new pollinator garden at its base and commissioned Jo the ChalkChick to create a vibrant, hyper-realistic 3D butterfly mural nearby. The artwork highlights the Tower’s commitment to urban biodiversity and invites visitors to engage with nature in an unexpected way.
