About Us

The Toronto Downtown West Business Improvement Area represents a dynamic urban community comprising two distinct neighbourhoods Toronto’s Entertainment District and King West Village. Together, they offer the best in arts and culture, hospitality, sports, and business. The area is home to some of the city’s most iconic destinations, from international film festivals, theatres, arenas, and stadiums to landmark architecture. It also includes leading institutions, world-class restaurants, a workforce of 83,000 people, 55,000 residents, more than 19 million annual visitors, and over 3,000 businesses.

Toronto’s Entertainment District

Toronto Downtown West is the concentrate of arts, culture, hospitality, sports and business to bring a unique and vibrant urban experience (Toronto Entertainment District). Since established in 2008, the Toronto Entertainment District along with the area west from Spadina Ave. to Bathurst St. has experienced a significant transformation. A name change to Toronto Downtown West BIA provides the BIA with a more inclusive representation of the business members.

King West Village has transformed from its industrial roots into one of Toronto’s most dynamic neighbourhoods. Getting Here and Around

By Air

Getting downtown from Toronto Pearson International Airport

Take the UP Express, a dedicated rail service linking Pearson Airport and Union Station. Trains depart every 15 minutes and reach downtown in about 25 minutes. On-board Wi-Fi is available. Fares start at $12.35, depending on your destination and type of pass. Visit UP Express for details.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is located on Toronto Island, just minutes from downtown. Travellers can access the city by a short ferry ride or pedestrian tunnel. The ferry departs from the foot of Bathurst Street (view map). It is free for pedestrians and $15 for vehicles (return trip). The ferry schedule runs from 05:15AM- 12:07AM daily, with ferry crossings every 15 minutes.

By Transit

Taxis and Ride-Hail Services

There are several taxi companies operating in Toronto, including Co-Op Cabs. Ride-hail services such as Uber and Lyft are also available throughout the city.

Trains & Buses

Toronto’s Union Station is centrally located downtown and connects directly to the TTC subway, the UP Express to the airport, and a network of regional GO trains and buses. It is also a Megabus and Greyhound bus stop.

From Union Station, GO Transit operates multiple regional rail lines, including Milton, Barrie, Kitchener, Lakeshore East and West, Richmond Hill, and Stouffville. VIA Rail and Amtrak also provide intercity service, bringing travellers into the downtown core each.

Public Transit

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is one of North America’s most extensive transit systems, offering subways, buses, and streetcars across the city. It provides a straightforward way to travel through Toronto and reach major attractions, neighbourhoods, and destinations.

Walking

Toronto is known for its safe, easy-to-navigate streets, making it an ideal city for exploring on foot. Many neighbourhoods are highly walkable and offer a great way to experience local culture. On rainy days, the PATH provides an alternative route—an underground pedestrian network spanning more than 30 kilometres of restaurants, shops, services, and entertainment.

Cycle

Cycling is an efficient and enjoyable way to explore Toronto. Bike Share Toronto provides 24/7 access to more than 9,000 bikes, including e-bikes, at over 800 stations citywide. The Toronto Cycling Map is a helpful resource, outlining the city’s 855-km bikeway network of off-road paths, bike lanes, and shared routes.
