Construction Update
The York Street on-ramp to the westbound F.G. Gardiner Expressway will be closed overnight from 11 p.m. on Thursday, September 12 until 5 a.m. Friday, September 13. During this time, construction crews will shift traffic control from the north side of the ramp (Stage 1) to the south side (Stage 2).
The work will include:
– Moving temporary concrete barriers and fencing
– Relocating signage
– Temporary line painting
Once the ramp reopens, it will continue to operate with both lanes open, using narrowed lanes to complete construction activities and accommodate traffic. Noise levels during this overnight work will be similar to regular daytime construction activities. You may hear noise from reversing trucks or the loading and unloading of materials. The City will make efforts to minimize noise impacts.
Thank you for your patience as we complete this important work.

City of Toronto Pre-Construction Notice: York St. On Ramp to Gardiner Expressway
Timing:
The project is set to start in June 2024 and aims to be completed by early 2025.
Traffic impacts:
Both lanes of the on-ramp will be kept open during most of the project.
One weekend and a few overnight closures will be necessary for safety and to ensure the quality of the work. These closures will be carefully scheduled to avoid conflicts with major city events and other traffic restrictions.
Background and overview of the work:
The York Street on-ramp, originally constructed in 1963, was last rehabilitated in 1990 and requires an immediate rehabilitation. The work will include comprehensive repairs to the bridge’s substructure and superstructure.
Construction notification:
Attached is a Pre-Construction Notice that provides an initial overview of the project. A more detailed Construction Notice will be distributed a few weeks before the start of the project. We will also provide advance notice for all night and weekend closures to ensure you are well-informed and can plan accordingly. Other westbound access ramps to the Gardiner Expressway, including those at Spadina Avenue and Jarvis Street, will remain open during this period.
