TTC Notice – Essential Rail Repairs on King Street West at John and Simcoe Streets

TTC will be conducting essential rail repairs on King Street West at John and Simcoe streets during the weekend of April 5 to 7. This work is part of TTC’s preventative maintenance program to ensure safe and reliable streetcar operations.

To accommodate this work, there will be temporary transit changes to 504 King service over that weekend as follows:

TTC service – 11 PM April 5 to 4 AM April 8

  • Due to the location of the work zone, there will be no TTC service on King Street between Peter Street and University Avenue.

503 Kingston Rd. streetcars will divert both ways via King Street East, Church Street, Wellington Street, York Street and King Street West back to route.

504A/B King and 304 King streetcars will temporarily operate as two split routes:

  • West of University Avenue: Streetcars will operate as far east as King Street and Spadina Avenue.
  • East of University Avenue: Streetcars will operate as far west as King Street and York Street.

504 King replacement buses will operate on King Street between Bathurst and Church streets. Buses will not operate between Peter Street and University Avenue.

Key traffic, cyclist and pedestrian details:

  • All work will take place within the streetcar right-of-way (centre lane) on King Street West at John Street and at Simcoe Street.
  • To maintain the existing curb lane infrastructure in this area, only one direction of vehicle traffic will be maintained through the work zone:
  • Westbound traffic will be maintained through the work zone with one lane.
  • Eastbound traffic will be restricted through the work zone – cars on the approach will have to turn on a nearby street to continue their travel.
  • Sidewalks, street furniture, patios and streetcar stop infrastructure within this section of King Street West will be maintained.
  • Paid duty officers or flag persons will be on-site to assist traffic movements. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
