City of Toronto 2024 CaféTO Program Improvements
City of Toronto is proposing a number of improvements to the CaféTO program. These improvements include fast-tracking approvals for returning restaurants, simplifying the process for new ones, and aiming to open curb lane patios by Victoria Day Long Weekend. Other proposed improvements include more streamlined business processes, improved communication with restaurants, ongoing review of City policies and regulations, as well as changes to zoning bylaws to make more private patios permanent and support additional revenue for businesses. The program also supports local musicians through the Amplified Music on Patios initiative.
CaféTO is one of several City-led business support programs that help the local restaurant industry and the larger food supply chain. Toronto’s diverse and vibrant restaurants and bars benefit from such programs, including:
- The property tax reduction for small businesses
- Tax reduction for live music venues
- Winterlicious and Summerlicious programs
- Night Economy planning that’s underway
