1. Update on 129 Peter St. – Shelter Intake Centre
The BIA is actively working with levels of government to address the backlog ofnew refugees as we understand that Toronto’s shelter system is at capacity. The City is aware of the challenging situation posed by numerous encampments along Richmond and Peter Street.
We are concerned for the health and safety of these new refugees and the community. As urgent solutions are necessary, we will keep you informed as we receive updates.
In the meantime, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns or would like to assist.

2. RSVP for Upcoming Community Session
Safeguarding Against Organized Crime
Date: August 17, 2023

Place: Hyatt Regency Toronto
The BIA will be hosting a day-long session with the goal of providing an understanding of organized crimes impacting our community. This event will cover the following:

* Gang Activity and Firearms in the Downtown
* Vehicle Thefts and Carjackings
* Human Trafficking

3. EWRB Reporting Deadline Extended
The Ministry of Energy has extended the deadline for Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking (EWRB) to October 31, 2023. All commercial, industrial, and multi-unit residential buildings with a gross floor area of 50,000 square feet or more are now required report their 2022 energy and water use data to the Ministry of Energy by October 31, 2023.

4. Automated External Defibrillator Opportunity
