1. Smart Serve Recertification Date Extended
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has extended the recertification period for those whose certificates are set to expire. If your certificate’s expiry date falls between June 30, 2023, and August 31, 2023, it will now remain valid until September 1, 2023. This extension provides additional time for individuals to complete their recertification training and ensure compliance with Smart Serve requirements.

2. Funding Available to Build Digital and AI Solutions
The Centre for Explainable Data Analytics (CEDA), a division of WIMTACH (the Technology Access Centre) at Centennial College is offering $2 million in funding from NSERC (National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada) to support retail businesses. The funding is intended to improve small business digital competence by building technology stacks to help understand their customers, optimize operations and improve inventory management.

3. CaféTO Property Improvement Program Deadline Extended
The City of Toronto’s CaféTO Property Improvement Program provides restaurant, bar, and café owners with a matching grant of up to a maximum of $7,500 covering 50 per cent of the cost of eligible improvements to patios in the curb lane, on sidewalks and on private property. Funded by the Federal Economic Development Agency for South Ontario, this program is part of the Toronto Main Street Recovery and Rebuild Initiative.
Applications will be accepted until Thursday, August 31, or when funds are expended.
