Celebrating World Bee Day with New Pollinator Garden at University Triangle
On May 20, the Toronto Downtown West BIA marked World Bee Day with the launch of a new pollinator garden at University Triangle—an underused green space now transformed into a vibrant urban habitat. In partnership with Fairmont Royal York, OCAD U and Pollinator Partnership, the activation featured the planting of hundreds of native plants, a live mural painting by Toronto artist Julia Prajza, and interactive education on pollinators.
Participants sampled honey from local hives and joined a rooftop tour of Fairmont’s beekeeping initiative before participating in the garden planting below. With over 30 native plant species supporting more than 70 pollinator species, the new garden highlights the importance of sustainability, biodiversity, and placemaking in Toronto’s core.

This project is supported by the City of Toronto through Live Green Toronto and the PollinateTO Grants Program.
